lace curtains
A super insulting name for Italian or Irish people who leave their blue-collar roots to become rich, fancy people like lawyers or cops. Used mostly in New England. It's like calling someone a nigger, but for Italians or Irish people.
My neighbor got called a lace curtain because he became a lawyer and forgot where he came from.
My cousin got called a lace curtain by his own brother for becoming a cop.
They called my uncle a lace curtain because he became a doctor and forgot his roots.
