I sense a "but" coming
You say this when someone acts like they’re with you, but you know they're just setting you up for a 'but' that will make you want to scream or cry or both.
My sister said, 'You're the best,' and I knew she was about to say 'but you still left me with the dishes.'
My dad said, 'I'm proud of you,' and I knew he was about to say 'but you're still grounded.'
My coworker said, 'That's a solid plan,' and I knew she was about to say 'but I still think you're an idiot.'
