A phrase someone uses when they got rejected, got tricked, or just wanted to save face after being the one who messed up. It’s basically a lie told to sound cool.
'I never liked you anyway' when they cheated on you with your best friend.
'I never liked you anyway' after you called them out for being fake.
'I never liked you anyway' because they didn’t want to admit they were wrong.
