A fancy way of saying ‘pubic hair,’ which is basically just ‘balls’ in disguise. If someone has you by the short hairs, they’ve got you by the balls, and you’re in deep trouble.
My brother got caught by the short hairs and now he’s crying in the corner.
My dad said, 'You’re in deep trouble, son, I’ve got you by the short hairs.'
My girlfriend said, 'You’re not getting out of this one, I’ve got you by the short hairs.'
