Gairaigo
Gairaigo is when English words get taken and turned into Japanese like they’re a broken machine. They’re used because there’s no Japanese word for ‘internet’ and also because Americans are considered cool, even if they sound like they’re screaming.
"I said ‘internet’ and it came out as ‘in-ten-net’ and I was like, ‘what even is that?’"
Text: "You said ‘laptop’ like it was a secret code."
Tweet: "I called my phone a ‘mobi’ and my friend thought I was talking about a mob."
