gaikokujin
A Japanese term that means ‘foreigner’ but is so fancy it’s like saying ‘outsider’ with a side of dignity. It’s the version of gaijin that your mom would use if she was trying to be nice.
My teacher said I was a gaikokujin for not knowing how to use a fan properly.
The guy at the sushi bar called me a gaikokujin for not knowing what a nori was.
My mom said I was a gaikokujin for not knowing how to write my name in kanji.
