A stupid way for brainless people to start a sentence when they’re confused and don’t know what they’re saying. It’s used so much that it turns smart people into dumb people who don’t know what they’re doing anymore.
'The fact of the matter is, you’re not smart,' he said, even though he didn’t know what he was talking about.
She said, 'The fact of the matter is, you’re not cute,' and then walked away like it was a big deal.
He used 'the fact of the matter' to explain why he lost the game. No one cared.
