Making up a story or lying by throwing in a few real facts to make it look like the truth. Or just telling part of what really happened so it sounds believable, while hiding the messy part. Or totally making stuff up and adding a little truth to make it sound cooler than it was.
I told my mom I failed math, but I added that I got a 70% on the test. She believed me, even though I actually got a 30%.
He said he got fired for slapping his boss, but he didn’t mention he did it during a Zoom meeting.
She claimed she got the promotion because she worked late, but she didn’t say she also took a nap during the meeting.

When you mix some real stuff with a bunch of made-up nonsense to make it sound like the real deal. Or just picking the parts of a true event that make you look good and leaving out the parts that make you look like a dud.
He said he won the lottery, but he forgot to mention he bought the ticket with his last $5.
She told her friends she got a date with a celebrity, but she didn’t say he was wearing a hat and had a beard.
He told his boss he worked all weekend, but he didn’t mention he spent half of it playing video games.

When you take a little truth and turn it into a big lie so it feels like the truth. Or just picking the good parts of a real event and leaving out the messy bits so it sounds like you’re a hero instead of a mess.
He told his friends he ran a marathon, but he forgot to mention he walked most of it.
She said she got a new job because she was the best candidate, but she didn’t say she got it because the other person quit.
He told his mom he got a promotion, but he didn’t say it was because he accidentally sent a message to his boss during a meeting.
